American Culture: What is it?

1) Define culture.

2) Describe what you see as the hallmarks of American culture. In other words, on down the road when our society no longer exists, what will the artifacts and creations we leave behind tell future peoples about our culture—our dominating beliefs, values, and behaviors?

3) Identify as many cultures as you can from the advertisement for America in the video below. Are these archetypes or stereotypes?

4) List the various cultures represented by your group members.

5) What do you consider to be your primary culture?

6) How does culture shape people and how do people shape culture?

Bonus points:

1) Take a photograph that portrays what you see as the face of (y)our culture.

2) Create a time capsule to reflect American culture at the present moment in history. You may draw, sculpt, collage, etc. or simply list what you'd put in it. Points will be awarded based on creativity and insightfulness.
