Echocardiography Report

Previous history:

Routine exam revealed tachycardia, slight rales, and a holosystolic murmur at the apex. Radiographs revealed left side heart enlargement with pulmonary venous congestion. EKG confirmed left side hypertrophy and sinus tachycardia with no evidence of MI.

Echocardiography exam:

The dimensions of the right atria and ventricles were within normal limits.  The left ventricular free wall was thickened to 12mm and the diameter of the chamber was smaller than normal. The left atrium is also enlarged.

The semilunar valves and tricuspid valves function normally.  The mitral valve

is slightly thickened  and an abnormal leaflet motion was detected.  The cordae tendonae of the bicuspid valve were intact.  No evidence of thrombus or valvular endocarditis was noted.

Conclusion:

Mitral valve insufficiency due to regurgitation and prolapse.
