Metroplex Medical & Surgical Specialists                          Operative Report

Pre-operative Diagnosis: Bilateral Serous Otitis Media

Operation Proposed: Bilateral myringotomy and T-tube insertion

Operative Report:

The patient was brought to the operating room, placed in a supine position and given a general anesthetic.  Using the operative microscope, the right ear canal was cleaned with a small amount of cerumen revealing a retracted tympanic membrane with yellow exudate. An anteriosuperior myringotomy was performed and the exudate was suctioned.  A drainage T-tube was inserted.  The procedure was then performed on the left ear in a similar manner.  The exudates from both ears were sent to the lab for antibiotic culture and sensitivity.

The patient recovered uneventfully from the anesthesia in the recovery room.

Post-Operative Diagnosis: Recurrent Otitis Media

Operation Performed: Bilateral Myringotomy and T-tube insertion
