Doctor’s Hospital                                                      Case Follow-Up Report

One year ago, a 66 year old woman presented to the medical service with loose, bloody bowel movements and a history of ulcerative colitis.  She had been on several rounds of medications and used enemas with minimal response of her clinical signs.

A gastroenterology referral with an endoscopic exam and biopsy determined that the severity of the disease justified a colectomy.  Surgery was successfully performed and the bloating and loose bloody bowel movements resolved several weeks after surgery.

A follow up sigmoidoscopy confirmed that the patient has responded and no additional lesions were noted.

The patient is currently being treated for asthma and the drugs may be contributing to her resolution of colitis.
