1. Explain blood’s composition as a connective tissue, giving the amount and percentage

of each component. 

2. Give blood’s general characteristics regarding : pH, viscosity, color, and function.

3. Regarding Plasma : give the percentage, composition and two (2) functions.

4. Regarding erythrocytes (RBCs) :

            a) Be able to describe normal mature cells : shape, size, color, and number

            b) Be able to name two functions of RBCs

            c) Be able to name two problems / conditions related to RBCs

5. Regarding leukocytes (WBCs) :

            a) Name the two major classification groups and the WBC general function

            b) Name each WBC within their group and be able to describe normal shape,

                        percentage of total count, size, and specific function for each

            c) Name two problems / conditions related to WBCs.

6. Regarding platelets (thrombocytes) :

            a) give the source of platelets

            b) be able to describe the normal shape, size, number, and function of platelets

            c) Name two problems / conditions related to platelets

7. Define hematopoieis, give the adult location, name the stem cell involved, and list

            two hormones that affect this stem cell and their actions.

8. Regarding hemostasis :  (careful, don’t confuse with homeostasis)

            a) Define hemostasis

            b) Name and describe the four (4) phases of hemostasis

            c) Name two problems / conditions related to hemostasis

9. Regarding the coagulation cascade phase of hemostasis :

            a) be able to list the phases of the common pathway, beginning with PTA

            b) explain the role of Vitamin K and calcium in the clotting cascade

10. Name the major blood groups, define agglutinogens, agglutinins, and agglutination.

11. Name four (4) tests that can be performed using blood.

12. Explain the fetal development regarding blood :

            a) fetal hemoglobin vs. adult hemoglobin

            b) fetal sites of blood formation vs. adult sites

13. Explain the relationship of blood to the other body organs and systems.
