Biology 2401 A&P I                Lecture Review    Nervous Tissue                  Dr. Weis

1. Know the nervous tissue divisions/subdivisions/components/organization

2. Know the functional and anatomical classification of neurons

3. Know all the neuroglial cells : location, names, function, general problem

4. Describe the events of a nerve conduction of impulses : ion channels, terms, results

5. Define : sensory, afferent, motor, efferent, interneuron

6. Compare and contrast graded and action potentials

7. Define all the physiological terms : RMP, hyperpolarization, depolarization, threshold, AP, repolarization,
after-hyperpolarization, absolute refractory period, relative refractory period.

8. Define synapse and junction and describe their anatomy.  Know other related terms : presynaptic and post synaptic

9. Explain conduction velocities of the various sizes of axons, continuous conduction, saltatory conduction, and the importance of myelination.

10. Define EPSP and IPSP, spatial and temporal summation and how these four terms relate to one another

11. For acetylcholine : how made, where made, how removed from the synapse, physiology of action

12. Pick two other neurotransmitters / neuromodulators / neurohormones and describe their location
(i.e where secreted), how made, where in the neuron they are made, how removed from the synapse, and their physiology of action.

13. Explain what is happening at a cholinergic synapse

14. Discuss neuron responses to injury

15. Know general organization of neuronal pools (circuits), processing, and related definitions.

16. Know the embryonic origins of the nervous tissue : which embryonic layer

17. Know some general problems associated with nervous system
