1. Define matter and energy, give examples of energy forms.

2. Give the fundamental elements and know their names and chemical symbols

3. Be able to give additional important elements in regards to names and symbols (your choice)

4. Define and describe the atom and its subatomic parts (location, charge, chemistry)

5. Which group of electrons are the most important and why.  Where are they located.

6. Be able to give the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons of an element if AN, MN & charge are known

7. Define isotope and explain its use

8. Define a chemical bond and be able to name and describe ALL the types of chemical bonds possible

9. Discuss the properties of water and why they are important

10. Define pH chemically and mathematically

11. Define and explain the use and formation of acids, bases, salts, and buffer systems

12. Be able to IDENTIFY the structure and give the function of organic compounds (macromolecules)

13. Discuss the 4 structural levels of proteins and how this relates to function, denaturing.

Know the causes of denaturing.

14. Define and give the function of  high energy compounds and give an example
