Biology 2402 Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory Objectives
Endocrine System
Students should be able to
1. Describe the structure, location and function of the major classical endocrine glands
2. Describe the structure, location, and function of other tissues or glands that have endocrine function
3. Describe the feedback loops and regulation for hormone stimulation, secretion, and removal.
Cardiovascular System
Students should be able to
1.Describe the structure and function of the formed elements of blood
2. Describe the composition and function of plasma
3. Perform standard tests on blood, such as CBC, PCV % (HCT), Diff WBC, and blood typing
4. Dissect a mammalian heart locating the major structures and their function
5. Describe the histology and physiology of cardiac muscle
6. Describe the structure and function of blood vessels
7. Identify the major circulatory routes on models, dissected specimens, & models
8. To perform routine tests using stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, pulse rates and ECG Lead II strips
Lymphatic System
Students should be able to
1. Describe the structure, location, and function of lymphatic vessels, tissues, and glands (nodes)
2. Dissect and locate regional lymph nodes, spleen, and thymus
Respiratory System
Students should be able to
1. Describe the structure, location, and function of the respiratory organs
2. Dissect a mammalian pluck to identify these organs
3. Perform respiratory tests related to pulmonary ventilation
Digestive System
Students should be able to
1. Dissect, locate, and describe the structure and function of the digestive organs and accessory glands
2. Discuss the general chemistry of digestion and metabolism
Urinary System
Students should be able to
1. Dissect, locate, and describe the structure and function of the urinary organs
2. Perform routine tests of the urinary function, such as a urinalysis
Reproductive System and Development
Students should be able to
1. dissect, locate, and describe the structure and function of the male reproductive system
2. dissect, locate, and describe the structure and function of the female reproductive system
3. discuss the major processes involved with gamete production
4. discuss the process of fertilization and development during the embryonic and fetal periods
5. Define genetic terms and be able to work genetics problems with various types of inheritance (Dominant, Recessive, Co-Dominant, Sex-Linked)
