Microbiology Lab Quiz FAQs

1. How many quizzes are required?
Ten quizzes are required throughout the semester.

2. How many quizzes will be given during a semester?
Minimum 12 - maximum 15. The best 10 quizzes will be chosen for this portion of the lab grade.

3. When are the quiz dates?
You can expect to have a quiz anytime you have a lab. However, the majority of the quizzes are given at the second meeting date for the lab. They can cover current or any old material.

4. Why am I responsible for old material?
Science courses build on each another. If you do not remember the "old" material, you will have nothing on which to build your current knowledge base and you will have difficulties in the course.

5. What if I miss a quiz?
Since there is a guaranteed minimum of 12 quizzes, that missed quiz will most likely count as one you will drop.

6. Are there any makeup quizzes?
No makeup quizzes are available, since the best 10 out of 12 (or more) are taken.

7. How many points on a quiz?
There are 10 points per quiz and the best 10 quizzes make up your lab quiz total. 10x10 = 100 possible points

8. How will the lab quiz affect my grade?
That depends on how well prepared you are for each lab and you ability to answer questions. The lab quiz total is calculated and then a percentage of that total is used to calcualte your lab grade. See departmental syllabus and instructor addendum for the laboratory portion of the course to determine the lab quiz percentage.

9. What do I need to study for each quiz?
Any previous information since the beginning of the semester up to the current lab assignment for that week.

10. Will there be pop quizzes?
Yes if needed. Pop quizzes are at the descretion of the instructor and are determined by the class preparedness for those particular lab activities.
