1) List the fundamental elements and know their names, chemical symbols, and chemical properties as they relate to microorganisms.
2) Be able to give other additonal important elements in regards to names, symbols, and use.
3) Describe the structure of an atom and the relationship of the subatomic parts to the chemical properties of an element.
4) Define and explain the importance of: Isotopes, energy level/shell, valence electrons.
5) Define a chemical bond and be able to name and describe ALL the types of chemical bonds possible.
6) Identify and diagram the major types of chemical reactions.
7) Explain the importance of enzymes, pH, temperature, and ATP to chemical reactions.
8) Discuss the properties of water based on chemical bonds and their importance to living organisms.
9) Define pH chemically and mathematically.
10) Define and explain the use and formation of acids, bases, salts, and buffer systems.
11) Regarding Organic (Macromolecules)
