Pathophysiology Report

Minimum three pages of content,
   Typed, single spaced paragraphs, 12 point font, 1 inch margins

Note: Cover sheet and Bibliography pages are not included in the 3 page minimum.

Content Pages

a) Introduction: History of the disease/condition (when, who discovered, causative agent(s), if any)

b) Signalment History: Who gets the disease (age, race, sec, etc) and how the disease occurred.

c) Differential Diagnosis: What other diseases/conditions could it be?

d) Diagnostic Tests: Include all important tests and definitive test for condition

e) Treatment options

f) Pre and post surgical considerations, if surgery is a valid treatment option

g) Alternative or Complementary Therapy options

h) Prognosis: out come of disease/condition (cured, palliative, fatal, etc.)

Conclusion:

a)      What type of care would you give for this patient?

b)      Things you would discuss with your patient and/or their family

Bibliography page: MLA format with a minimum of three current references, not including your text book. MLA formatting style may be referenced by using the LRC books or internet sources.


Grading Rubric for Pathophysiology Paper: 40 points maximum


Written Presentation of Pathophysiology Paper: 10 points total

            A poster presentation will be designed for display in a public area.

            Easels and tables will be available depending on the design of the presentation.

This written display will include the following (think Science Fair set up)

                        a) Disease Name at the top of the poster or wall board

                        b) Name of student(s)

                        c) History Summary (1 paragraph)

                        d) Diagnosis Information (list of differentials and tests)

                        e) Treatment and Surgical Consideration Summary

                        f) Illustrations (drawings, photos, etc) with labels

                        g) References

Poster presentations will become the property of the instructor to be used in subsequent science classes. Keep copies of your work for your reference and future use.

Grading Rubric for written presentation of pathophysiology paper:

1)      Overall design, neatness, and organized presentation of report = 2.5 points

2)      Written information summaries = 3.5 points

3)      Visual information and labels = 3.5 points

4)      References = 0.5 points


Oral Presentation Summary: 5 points

v     An oral presentation will be made by the authors of the paper.

v     A maximum of 5 minutes will allowed per report.

v     The presenters should summarize the findings as outlined in the written presentation and may use their written presentation during their oral summary.

v     If a report is shared by two lab partners and one is missing for the oral report, then the missing lab partner will receive a grade of zero for this presentation.

v     Students should be prepared to answer any questions from the class or other attendees.
