Pathophysiology Review for Environmental Hazards and Diseases
- Be able to name 2 chemicals found in air and smoke and explain the overall
effects of air pollution on the respiratory system.
- Describe the response of the respiratory system to inhalation of the
various pneumoconiosis related diseases.
- Be able to name a drug and describe its potential adverse reactions.
(You may use the drug you selected for your drug lab report or a different
drug). Be able to explain how it is metabolized in the body, how excreted,
and any drug interactions it might potentially have when used in combination.
- Name the clinical signs seen with lead poisoning and carbon monoxide
poisoning and explain the treatment options for both poisonings.
- Name a drug that is abused
(this also can include alcohol). Give the
clinical signs and long term effects of continued use of this drug.
- Describe a mechanical trauma and the resulting effects on the tissue/organ
affected.
- Describe the three burn classifications and treatment therapies available.
- Explain the difference between
hypothermia and hyperthermia regarding critical temperatures and clinical
signs. Discuss treatments for each.
- Name 2 vitamin and 2 mineral deficiencies and their clinical syndromes.
- Explain anorexia and bulimia’s long term effects on the body.
- Name problems associated with long term obesity.
- Discuss the factors that lead to malnutrition.
