A&P Basics Course Grade Summary

 

Lecture : 65% of overall course grade

2 lecture exams @ 35% each make up 70 % of the Lecture portion of the grade. Each exam is worth 100 points.
A missed exam means that the lecture quiz total will be used in its place. Only one exam may be missed during the semester. If other exam is missed then the grade will be assigned a zero (0).

4 Lecture quizzes are used to get you prepared for the exams and each 2 lecture quizzes will cover the material over the corresponding major exam. Lecture quiz 1 & 2 will cover the Exam I material, Lecture quiz 3 & 4 will cover Exam II material.
Lecture quizzes are 25 points each and will total to 100 points. They are optional and the total of the four quizzes may be used to substitute for a low exam score or one missed exam.

A missed lecture quiz will be assigned a grade of zero (0).


The remaining 30% of the lecture portion of the course is included in the course participation. The course participation is worth 100 points.

Participation consists of

  • Discussion topics and commentaries (70 points)
  • Student Agreement Form (15 points)
  • Student Introductory 4-6 Word Description (5 points)
  • Student Learning Assessment and Scores (10 points)
  • Optional website evaluation (extra 10 points)
  • Optional student information form (5 points)

 

Discussions :

3 discussions are required and 2 commentaries are required.

Discussion topics will be offered every two weeks during the semester and the topics are accessed using the discussion link on the main navigation page.
Two (2) Discussion topics must be chosen from the topics list and the third discussion topic is open for student choice, but must be related to A&P concepts. Discussions comprise the comments, thoughts, and research done and posted using Blackboard.
Each discussion is worth 20 points. (20 x 3 = 60 points)

Check the calendar for the time frame of the preselected topics. The open topic is due by the last week of classes (week 15).

If no discussions are submitted for all or just one or two, then that grade for the missing discussions will be a zero (0).

 

The remaining 10 points of the discussion will be assigned to 2 student commentary/critiques.
Accessing Blackboard and using the discussion link, click on another student's discussion posting, read, and add constructive thoughts and comments and sign your name.
Each student commentary is worth 5 points. If no commentaries are submitted, then a zero (0) will be assigned. Commentaries are due 1 week after the particular topic closes. Comments on open topics are due by the last week of class (week 15)


The remaing participation points (30) will comprise

    • Student Agreement Form (15 points)
    • Student Introductory Statement (5 points)
    • Student Learning Assessment (10 points)
  • Student Agreement Form : This form must be filled out, signed, and returned to the instructor PRIOR to the start of classes. If the form is received late, then only 5 points will be awarded. Student agreement forms received after the 12 class day (census date) will be given a zero (0).

  • Student Introductory Summary Statement: Posted in the Communications Section of Web CT, this is consists of 4-6 noun words that describe you and the explanations for each of those words. This exercise is to help introduce yourself to your instructor and fellow classmates. This posting is due midweek of the first week of school. 2 point deductions will occur for every day after Wednesday that your introduction is missing.
  • Student Learning Assessment Scores:
    Scores in six areas are to be sent to the instructor along with the overall readiness results for online course success.

    Optional Extra Credit towards participation
  • Website evaluation : optional
    Form to be filled out and sent to the instructor. Constructive criticism and suggestions on improving the course website.
    Due during finals week via email attachment.
  • Student Information Form: optional
    Form to be filled out and sent to the instructor during the first week of school

Lab : 35 % of overall course grade

50% of the lab grade comes from Two lab practicals @ 25% each

25% of the lab grade comes from Ten best lab quizzes (out of 15 possible)

25% of the lab grade comes from lab reports : 2 worksheets @ 25 points each and 1 disease paper @ 30 points each, 1 lab activity report @ 10 points, and 1 medical records report @ 10 points.

All practicals, ten quizzes, and lab reports are required. Any missed laboratory component will be assigned a zero(0). There are no makeups.
