4 lecture exams @ 15 % each make up 60 % of the Lecture portion of the grade. Each exam is worth 100 points.
A missed exam means that you take the final exam during finals week. Only one exam may be missed during the semester. If other exams are missed then the grade will be assigned a zero (0) and the lecture quiz total will not be used.
Lecture quizzes are used to get you prepared for the exams and the 10 best lecture quizzes (out of 15 possible) can be used to substitute for a lower exam grade. The lecture quizzes will not substitute for any missed exam. Four major exams must be taken before the lecture quiz total can be used. The lecture quizzes are actually optional, but most students benefit from weekly feedback and the quiz total is quite often used in the final grade calculation.
The remaining 40% of the lecture portion of the course is included in the course participation. The course participation is worth 200 points.
Participation consists of comments, thoughts, and research for 4 discussion topics offered every two weeks during the semester. Discussions are posted using WebCT.
For every participation, 35 points will be attributed to the participation grade, with a maximum of four (4) discussions for 140 points.
If no discussions are submitted for all or just one or two or three, then that grade for the missing discussions will be a zero (0).
The remaining 60 points of the participation will be assigned to four (4) other activities : the student agreement form [20 points], student information form [10 points], student introductory statement [20 points], and a website evaluation form [10 points].
- Student Agreement Form : This form must be filled out, signed, and returned to the instructor PRIOR to the start of classes. If the form is received late, then only 10 points will be awarded. Student agreement forms received after the 12 class day (census date) will be given a zero (0).
- Student Information Form : This form must be returned by the end of the first week of classes. If received after the first week, then only 5 ponts will be awarded. Information forms received after the 12th class day (census) will receive a zero (0).
- Student Introductory Statement: Posted in the Discussion Section of Web CT, this is consists of 5-8 noun words that describe you and the explanations for each of those words. This exercise is to help introduce yourself to your instructor and fellow classmates. This posting is due midweek of the first week of school. 5 point deductions will occur for every day after Wednesday that your introduction is missing.
- Website evaluation : Form to be filled out and sent to the instructor. Constructive criticism and suggestions on improving the course website. Due during finals week.
