ASSESSMENTS: Prior to enrolling in this course, the student must demonstrate eligibility to enroll in the following: MATH 1325

PREREQUISITE: MATH 1314, MATH 1324, or MATH 1414

COURSE Delivery Method: DVD Lecture, interactive homework, lab and guided practice.

COURSE MEASURABLE LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon completion of this course the students should be able to do the following:

1. Be able to find the rate of change of a function, both over an interval and instantaneously.
2. Use the derivative to study rates of change and marginal changes in economic applications
3. Construct accurate graphs of functions using the concepts of calculus.
4. Find optimum values of functions and apply them to practical situations, including related rates.
5. Solve problems involving logarithmic or exponential growth and decay using ideas of calculus.
6. Find anti-derivatives, both as indefinite integrals and as solutions to simple differential equations.

 Learning Objectives: A study of the integral calculus and its applications, including various problems in business and economics.

Course Withdrawal: To drop this class, you need to do the following:

1. Attain a Drop/Add sheet from the registrar’s office;

2. Turn in the completed form to the office of Admission and Records 972-881-5710 on or prior to the drop deadline date.

3. All students will receive an F if they do not finish this class and do not withdraw on or prior to the drop deadline date.

Academic Ethics: The college may initiate disciplinary proceedings against a student accused of scholastic dishonesty. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, statements, acts, or omissions related to applications for enrollment or the award of a degree, and/or the submission of material as one’s own work that is not one’s own. Scholastic dishonesty may involve one or more of the following acts: cheating, plagiarism, collusion, and/or falsifying academic records. Cheating is the willful giving or receiving of information in an unauthorized manner during an examination, illicitly obtaining examination questions in advance, using someone else’s work for assignments as if it were one’s own, copying computer disks or files, and any other dishonest means of attempting to fulfill the requirements of a course. Plagiarism is the use of an author’s words or ideas as if they were one’ s own without giving credit to the source, including, but not limited to, failure to acknowledge a direct quotation. Academic penalty for scholastic dishonesty: Students will receive a zero on those assignments where they were found guilty by the Dean of Students for scholastic dishonesty, i.e., cheating, collusion, etc. as stated above; also, for repeated occurrences of these incidences, students will receive a failing grade in this class section.

Cell Phones, Social Media and Browsers: Cell phones and all other means of social media and browsers are not allowed to be used during Exams without formal permission of the instructor. Any violations will be reported to the Dean of students.

Course Requirements:

  1. Read assigned material as assigned in the course calendar.

  2. Watch all DVD lectures in Canvas.

  3. Complete and submit on time the Labs posted in WebAssign through Canvas.

  4. Complete and submit on time the Exams posted in WebAssign through Canvas, to be taken in the testing center or through ProctorU.

  5. Complete and submit on time the Final exam posted in WebAssign through Canvas, to be taken in the testing center or through ProctorU.

It is highly recommended to read each section before you watch its DVD and work homework problems. You are expected to copy DVD lecture notes as you watch them and use your notes to study for each Lab and Exam. Also, you are expected to work all Exam's review questions posted at http://faculty.collin.edu/rkhoury/Math_1325/Math%20_1325_Exam_Review.htm before taking each Exam. All exams problems are similar to the Lab problems. You are expected to use any of the Collin's Math Labs while working your Lab problems. Homework problems are not graded.

Attendance Policy: This is an online course with Lab components in which students are required to complete Labs, Exams, and Final online in WebAssign through Canvas.

 

Aspects of the class: All Labs, Exams, and Final are online in WebAssign through Canvas. Once you submit your worked problems, both you and I can see your graded score in WebAssign. Also, you should be able to see the Labs and Exams questions after their due date in WebAssign through Canvas.
 

Method of Evaluation:  Students will receive a zero grade on every missed Lab and Exam. Makeups are allowed without proper written reports. Otherwise, grades will be assigned based on the average of the following tasks. Check course calendar for assignment availability in WebAssign through Canvas.

20% Four Lab assignments to be taken online in WebAssign through Canvas
        Lab 1 - Sections covered: 1.5 - 1.6, 2.1 - 2.5
        Lab 2 - Sections covered: 2.6 - 2.8, 3.1 - 3.5
        Lab 3 - Sections covered: 3.6 - 3.8, Handout 8.6, 4.3, 4.5 - 4.6
        Lab 4 - Sections covered: 5.1 - 5.4, 5.6
60% Four Exams to be taken online in WebAssign through Canvas in the testing center or through ProctorU (Drop one lowest Exam grade)
        Exam 1 - Sections covered: 1.5 - 1.6, 2.1 - 2.5
        Exam 2 - Sections covered: 2.6 - 2.8, 3.1 - 3.5
        Exam 3 - Sections covered: 3.6 - 3.8, Handout 8.6, 4.3, 4.5 - 4.6
        Exam 4 - Sections covered: 5.1 - 5.4, 5.6
20% Comprehensive Final exam to be taken online in WebAssign through Canvas in the testing center or through ProctorU
        Sections covered: 1.5 - 1.6, 2.1 - 2.8, 3.1 - 3.8, Handout 8.6, 4.3, 4.5 - 4.6, 5.1 - 5.4, 5.6

All assignments, including Labs, Exams, and Final, will be automatically graded in WebAssign and grades will be posted in the grade book upon submission. Discussions posted in the discussion board will not be graded. Your course letter grade will be assigned as follows:

90-100 = A              80-89 = B              70-79 = C             60-69 = D                 0-59 = F

Lab questions are in WebAssign through Canvas and to be taken according to the course calendar.

Exam questions are similar to the Lab questions. All Exam must be taken in the testing center or through ProctorU in WebAssign through Canvas and locked by passwords. Exams passwords are not given to students. You are allowed TI-84 graphing calculator on the exams. Nothing else. A testing center employee will offer you blank scratch papers to be turned in (to be shredded) before you leave. If you take your Exam through ProctorU, You have to provide your own blank papers and shred them at the end in front of the camera. Also, you should only login to Canvas and do not open any other tabs beside the assessment tab or any browsers or use any other devices including cell phones.

Final exam questions are similar to the Labs and Exams questions. Final exam must be taken in the testing center or through ProctorU in WebAssign through Canvas and locked by a password. Final exam password is not given to students. You are allowed TI-84 graphing calculator on the exams. Nothing else. A testing center employee will offer you blank scratch papers to be turned in (to be shredded) before you leave. If you take your Final exam through ProctorU, You have to provide your own blank papers and shred them at the end in front of the camera. Also, you should only login to Canvas and do not open any other tabs beside the assessment tab or any browsers or use any other devices including cell phones.


Makeup Policy: Every student is expected to take all assessments and submit them in WebAssign through Canvas according to the course calendar. No makeup is allowed without proper written reports. A zero grade will be assigned to your missed Final. Students cannot retake the final beyond the posted dates in the course calendar.
 

Requirements for Participation in Online Discussion or Collaborative Activities: Students are required to participate in self introductions but discussions will not be graded.
