Title                Tile Design using Mathematics

Course           Calculus II – Math 2414, Fall 2012

Students        Amy Glazier

Summary:

The melding of mathematics with art is an oft-underappreciated pairing that yields not only supreme elegance, but applications for practical purposes as well. In that spirit, this project explores myriad patterns, proportions, and color combinations that can be generated using a variety of functions, their integrals, and the aid of Wolfram Mathematica modeling software. The parameters of each design and their accompanying analytical work will be used to compile a catalog of square floor tile designs, demonstrating the artistic applications and practical possibilities of mathematics.
