Title                Trash Container Construction Optimization

Course           Calculus III – Math 2415, Fall 2013

Students        Seungjoon Kim

Summary:

A large number of containers are manufactured for trash disposal and thus, reducing the fabrication cost could provide significant savings for large cities. The main costs of fabrication are the materials (mainly sheet metal) and the cost of welding. This project identifies an existing container configuration and optimizes it for minimum fabrication cost while maintaining the required volume and under certain sheet metal and welding cost assumptions. Other design alternatives will also be provided and each of them will also be optimized from a cost perspective.
