These portraits are singular ‘snapshots,’ reflecting a particular season of seeking, coping, overcoming, reclaiming: generally struggling through the experiences that shape the individuals. I am interested in where a person derives their strength to overcome. A true survivor bends with trials; gaining strength and wisdom along the journey.

This series is a response to our cultures obsession with ‘reality TV’ which portrays survival in a completely fabricated situation. The ‘Survivor" portraits reflect the differing ‘responses’ to life events. Joys, hurts, and disappointments though universal, are quite specific & personal in their individual details. These paintings are not meant to define the subject or judge their situation, merely to record a ’defining moment’ along their path and bring attention to common human struggles.
